Robert Dean Lurie

Robert Dean Lurie is at work on a biography of filmmaker John Hughes for Creed & Culture. He is the author of two biographies: Begin the Begin: R.E.M.’s Early Years and No Certainty Attached: Steve Kilbey and the Church. His essays on arts and culture have appeared in the Spectator World, Modern Age, National Review, America, Blurt Magazine, the American Conservative, and Dangerous Minds. In 2024 he rolled out his immersive, serialized study of the movies, music, books, and events of 1984, which can be read in its entirety at his Listening to 1984 Substack. In addition to his forthcoming project for Creed & Culture, he is at work on another book with (and about) acclaimed Australian songwriter Steve Kilbey. Lurie received his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. (Author photo by Matt S. Hinton.)
